Adjectives
Adjectives in french are as a main rule placed after the noun which the adjectives are describing.
Ex: un livre intéressant, un film passionnant

A few adjectives which describes elementary properties are placed before the nouns which they describe.
Ex: beau, joli, gros, bon, mauvais, court, long, haut, bas, jeune, vieux, nouveau, vieux, petit, grand, premier, dernier.

Other adjectives, which often are placed before the nouns are:
autre, double, gentil, gentille, léger, légère, mou, mol, molle, seul.

Some adjectives, which do not belong to the group of elementary properties will, when they are placed before the nouns, become more 'natural' and of less importance. Un travail dur is a harder labour than un dur travail, implying that labour per definition is hard.
